Undergraduate Scholarships

Requirements & Guidelines:

  • Student must have declared a major in Education, with an interest in teaching first grade
  • Student must have a 3.0 GPA
  • Student must demonstrate a need for financial assistance

Requirements & Guidelines:

  • Student must be a resident of Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho, or Western Montana
  • Student must be majoring in Education with interest to become a teacher.

Requirements & Guidelines:

  • Student must be of Junior or Senior Standing
  • Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Student must be an Education Major, with a public-school emphasis
  • Student must demonstrate financial need.

  • Student must be a full time student
  • Student must be studying one of the following areas:
    • Education Major (priority given)
    • Counseling
    • Developmental Psychology
    • Physical Education

  • Student must be enrolled full time with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8
  • Student must be studying Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, K-8 or special education.

Requirements & Guidelines:

  • Student must be majoring in Education with the intent to teach K-12, junior/community college, or university levels
  • Student must have junior or senior standing
  • Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Preference given to students who have received awards for their art within high school, college, or the community.

  • Student should demonstrate strong leadership and teaching skills through one of the following:

    • Two (2) from a previous EWU professor

    • One (1) from the Director of Chicano Education/Studies program with reference to the student’s merit and scholastic ability.
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Renewable if student continues to meet requirements
  • Must demonstrate merit and financial need

Graduate General Scholarships

Requirements & Guidelines:

  • Student must be a graduate student with “accepted” status in the School of Education or Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Student must have a minimum 3.2 GPA

  • Student must be admitted into a graduate education program

Undergrad & Graduate Private Scholarships

  • The scholarship is for tuition only.
  • This scholarship is established to encourage students to finish their education degrees in order to become practicing science teachers in the public secondary schools. Therefore, evidence of good scholarship and demonstrated desire to teach science are the qualifying considerations for this award.
  • As an encouragement to graduate, a student may receive this award in his or her junior year and for a second time in his or her senior year. A graduate student also may receive this award.
  • Eligible candidates shall be selected from the general pool by the scholarship office/office of financial aid and forwarded to the education department chair for selection. Recipients shall be selected under leadership of the education department chair with appropriate input from faculty.
  • The education department must submit their choice to the Office of Financial Aid by the required deadline set by the Office of Financial Aid for the award to be made.

Requirements & Guidelines:

  • The Graduate Fellow must either be a history, or education major, or both.
  • The Graduate Fellow will continue do to work to support the Cheney Normal Heritage School House by:
  • Creating Curriculum to share with the outside community and visiting students.
  • Conduct tours and classes for students and other interested parties on the behalf of the College of Education and Human Development for the Cheney Normal Heritage School House.
  • Award changes yearly – approximate award = $2250

  • Must be seeking a master’s degree in literacy at Eastern Washington University.
  • The scholarship award may be renewed only once
  • Must maintain a minimum of 3.5 GPA
  • Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition and fees only
  • The awards shall be made on the basis of merit and need; if the academic records of applicants are comparable, the applicant(s) with the greatest financial need will be given preference

"Follow Your Own Path" Essay Scholarship

This scholarship aims to support all current postsecondary students, regardless of the type of education they are pursuing. In order to apply for the “Follow Your Own Path” Essay Scholarship, students must submit an essay about their career ambitions. As it is Scholarships360’s goal to help out all types of postsecondary students who are actively looking for ways to fund their higher education journey, this $500 scholarship will be awarded to students based on both the quality of their essays and quantity of scholarships applied for on the Scholarships360 platform.

Applicants must:

  • Attend college, technical/vocational, certificate programs or graduate school during the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents

Neil D. Prescott Student Teaching/Internship Scholarship

The Washington State School Retirees’ Association (WSSRA) invites prospective teachers and other educators in their final year of college preparation to apply for the Neil D. Prescott Scholarship. This one-time scholarship is awarded to students who will be student teaching or conducting an internship during the 2023-2024 academic year. Sixteen scholarships (eight $3,000 awards and eight $1,000 awards distributed across the eight WSSRA regions) will be awarded.

In addition, in each  of WSSRA’s eight regions, local WSSRA units may award additional scholarships.

Applicants must:

  • Be presently enrolled in a college of education in Washington State pursuing a career in education
  • Be committed to securing employment in a school district in the state
  • Will conduct student teaching or an internship during the 2023-24 academic year.

2023-24 student teachers are encouraged to apply.

Application was due by April 1st, 2023. The application for the 2024-2025 academic year will open in November 2023

WSAC Conditional Scholarships

Washington Student Achievement Council Teacher Programs

The Washington State Educator Workforce Program (EWP) provides financial aid to attract and retain teachers to work in subjects or locations of high need known as shortage areas.

EWP includes options for current teachers, student teachers, paraprofessionals, and non-educators hoping to move into the teaching field. Most are conditional scholarships that encourage individuals to pursue teaching in subjects or locations of high need, also known as “Shortage Areas,” in return for funding received.
