This program offers financial support for educators in Districts 81 and 171; all other applicants have the option of self-support. The program is grounded in the best practices and current research in educational leadership and management, preparing candidates to meet the diverse needs of each learning environment. The program endeavors to prepare educators to be effective school leaders whether as principals, assistant principals, program administrators or as teachers still in the classroom. The Masters of Education Degree with an emphasis in educational leadership is ideal for a teacher or other certified staff member who desires to prepare for the challenging, meaningful and essential role of a school leader. Requirements for principal certification in the State of Washington include a teaching certificate or an educational staff associate certificate and at least three years of qualifying experience. Candidates complete five prerequisite courses addressing all aspects of school leadership and a 540-hour internship. Candidates may begin any quarter, including summer. The internship begins each August and runs for the entire school year. It includes in-person seminars featuring dynamic practitioners, personal supervisions along with a collegial cohort.
