The Health Science Bachelor of Science degree provides working professionals with the opportunity to advance their careers and is ideal for undergraduate students pursuing health science-related careers.

Fully online – earn your BSHS from the comfort of your home.

This program is a pathway for those with an Associate Degree in an Allied Health Program, or currently working as an Allied Health Professional, or current EWU students with Pre-Nursing or Pre-Dental Hygiene coursework to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree. This degree is NOT a pathway for entry to medical school.

The Program Specialist sends out the course registration information four to six weeks before the semester starts via your EWU student email.

It is the policy of EWU when communicating through email to only use you EWU student email. Please be aware our program does not send any emails to non-EWU emails once your EWU student email account has been set up.

NOTE: The EWU student email is easily forwarded to a preferred email account.

Canvas: Once you register for courses, you’ll receive an email from Canvas to see your online classroom. Canvas courses are open on the first day each semester.

Applicants must have the following:

  • Completion of all EWU BACRs and graduation requirements except Capstone
  • A minimum of 120 quarter credits (recommended current EWU students meet with their CAAR Advisor to discuss minor options)

  • Check the EWU email address for the letter regarding the application status.  
  • All Minors must be completed prior to the start of the program   

Pre-Nursing or Pre-Dental Hygiene Student Wanting to Pursue a BSHS Degree

To earn a BS degree in Health Science at Eastern Washington University (EWU), a minimum of 40 upper-division semester credits are required beyond the Pre-Nursing and Pre-Dental Hygiene prerequisites and BACRs/University requirements. A minimum of 30 of these credits must be earned from EWU.

  • Completion of all prerequisite coursework for the EWU Pre-Nursing and Pre-Dental Hygiene major

Submit official transcripts with the most current fall quarter/semester of college or university coursework. Transcripts can be submitted electronically from your school or can be mailed to:

Transfer: Allied Healthcare Practitioner with a Qualified AAS Degree

To earn a BS degree in Health Science at Eastern Washington University (EWU), a minimum of 40 upper-division semester credits are required beyond the Associate Degree. A minimum of 30 of these credits must be earned from EWU.

  • Provide unofficial transcripts from ALL schools attended for review.
  • You must have university-level English and Math proficiency completed (English 201 equivalent and a minimum of college algebra). Official transcripts must be sent to EWU Admissions upon applying to EWU.
  • Completion of all EWU BACRs and graduation requirements except Capstone

Our students find the flexibility of online learning an appealing way to learn from the comfort of their own home. It is an ideal option for dental hygienists who want to continue working. You can expect to spend 2-3 hours per credit, doing homework, taking part in online discussions and completing assignments/projects.

Tuition is $380.07 per semester credit. We make every effort to keep the cost reasonable as EWU embraces the promotion of all allied health care professionals having a bachelor’s degree. We are still one of the least expensive programs in the United States. The university charges a $60 per semester credit online delivery fee.

NOTE: This is a semester program.

You must have an associate degree or certificate in a health-related program. Students who have earned an associate degree are typically able to enroll in this course of study with no additional prerequisite requirements.

The program is designed for working allied healthcare professionals. Depending on previous coursework, the core BSHS curriculum is designed to be completed in two years as a full-time student or three years as a part-time student. Each student is advised and provided a personal Eagle Flight Plan for completing their BSHS in a timely manner. For more information about course scheduling, please contact the Program Specialist.

Most students continue to work four days per week and continue their family lives without much issue. Please use the calendar under “Is Online Learning Right for You” to determine whether a full or part-time option works best with your lifestyle.

There is no clinical component for this program.

An English 201 equivalent (english proficiency) is required, along with a college algebra proficiency. Students who do not have completed coursework are not permitted to start the program until proof of prerequisite coursework completion.
