Welcome to Dental Hygiene Center for Lifelong Learning (DHCLL). Our goal is to promote a spirit of life-long learning for instructors dedicated to improving pedagogy and student learning as well as clinicians committed to providing quality oral care at the top of their scope of practice.

Expanded Function Restorative Education Program

  • Participants are required to complete assigned online self-study and attend the 10-day in-person training.
  • Participants must be licensed or show evidence of successful completion of the Western Regional Examination Board (WREB) Local Anesthesia Examination prior to the restorative course.
  • The total clock hours is 105 (90 face-to-face and 15 online pre-study).
  • Participants receive a Certificate of Completion when all competencies are successfully passed.
  • Content and experiences are designed so participants are ready to sit for the Restorative portion of the Western Regional Examination Board (WREB).

Refunds: Once payment has been received for the course, a non-refundable portion of the cost ($TBA) cannot be refunded.

  • The dress code for participants is clinical scrubs, or neutral pants such as khakis covering the ankle. Jeans are not permitted at any time.
  • Shoes should be close toed — either tennis shoes or clog style (i.e Danskos) with socks to cover ankles.
  • Lab coats are furnished by EWU.

  • Loupes or strong magnification glasses are strongly recommended for the course.
  • Participants must provide their own protective eyewear.

  • 15 online clock hours of self-paced learning are required prior to attending the face-to-face course. A computer and internet access are required.
  • The online course begins six weeks prior to the on-site visit.

  • Required to attend at the Eastern Washington University Dental Hygiene Clinic on the EWU Spokane campus in Spokane, WA.
  • The course consists of 90 clock hours over a 10-day period including didactic, lab and patient clinic. The course requires a weekend. (Please note, dental hygienists seeking Oregon licensure require one extra day of clinical/laboratory training.)

There are two hotels located directly across the street from the EWU Dental Hygiene Clinic and another one within a half mile. Remember to ask any hotel you stay at if they have an “Eastern Washington University” rate as you are here for official university business.

This course is designed for licensed dental hygienists seeking licensure in Washington or Oregon. In order to gain licensure in these states, hygienists must demonstrate competency in restorative functions. This course assists dental hygienists in learning restorative functions and procedures.

Participants are required to attend the 10-day course on the EWU Spokane campus. Space is limited to a maximum of 8 students.

Participants should be ready to sit for the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB) Restorative Examination.

We are unable to offer a course for 2023. Please check back early 2024 for potential offerings.
