Official Transcript Guidelines

Most EWU graduate programs only require one transcript. A degree-bearing transcript (with a bachelor’s or master’s degree) and at least two year’s worth of credits on it is required. If not, please submit transcripts with your last 2 years’ worth of credits.

  1. Go to the transcript website for the prior university where you earned your highest degree (bachelor’s or master’s).
  2. Order an electronic, official transcript (If the prior college only has mail as an option, expect them to take 4-6 weeks for them to arrive.)
  3. Have it sent to Eastern Washington University

Music and EDS in School Psychology applicants must provide an official transcript from all prior colleges attended. For questions, please review the program application instructions on the program website.

For the fastest turnaround, have all required transcripts sent inside the CAS application.

  1. Within the CAS application, the My Application tab, select the Academic History section
  2. Click Colleges Attended
  3. To the right of every college you entered, click Order

Electronic Transcripts

  1. Select Option 1: Order an Electronic Transcript (This is the fastest method)
  2. Copy your CAS ID number. You’ll need it later.
  3. Select the correct e-transcript service (If you don’t know which one to use, search for your university in each one.)
  4. Follow the prompts to send an electronic PDF. Make sure the Recipient is the application system you’re using: “BusinessCAS” or “GradCAS.” If you send the transcripts to EWU, this will delay the processing of your application
  5. Remember to include your CAS ID so the transcript can get linked to your application as quickly as possible.

Paper Transcripts

Paper transcripts will take 4 – 6 weeks to arrive. Use these steps only if your previous university does not participate in an electronic transcript service (or you are unable to identify the correct e-transcript service):

  1. Select Option 2: Order a Mailed Paper Transcript
  2. Click Download Transcript Request Form button to download and print transcript matching form
  3. Provide this form to the college or university Registrar’s Office so they can send an official transcript to the CAS application.

The Transcript Request Form includes your CAS ID and the correct mailing address so the transcript will post as quickly as possible.

EWU already has your EWU transcript.

Applicants with earned graduate or professional degrees from a regionally accredited institution are considered, by their academic accomplishments, to have evidence of student preparedness generally equivalent to EWU’s minimum admission standards. These applicants must provide an official transcript from the institution where they earned their graduate or professional degree. For these applicants, the requirement to provide undergraduate transcripts is waived for admission to EWU.

Graduate certificates or professional degrees that are less than 36-quarter credits or 24-semester credits are ineligible for applicants to waive their undergraduate transcripts.

Transfer credits: Applicants who intend on transferring credits from other institutions must provide official transcripts from the institution where they earned the credits for the department and university to evaluate.

  • Transcripts contain more information than grades (i.e. degrees or certificates, accreditation, suspensions & dismissals, etc.).
  • Transfer credits may lose grade information, or course titles change.
  • Transcripts can and do change over time (grades are revised; degrees are added/revoked).
  • A complete picture of an applicant’s academic career.

If you are unable to obtain an official transcript due to: a financial, disciplinary, or academic hold, you will need to work with your institution to resolve the issue.

In addition to a transcript from outside the United States, an official course-by-course evaluation is required. A credential evaluation service must be recognized by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). The credential evaluation service must also provide a chronological list of course work.

A list of credential evaluation services can be found at www.naces.org.

To complete your application, please submit an official transcript from the university where you earned your bachelor’s or master’s degree.Unofficial transcripts cannot be accepted.

From your highest earned degree, whether a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree (not certificate), please submit an official degree-bearing transcript

A degree-bearing transcript must have at least 2 years of credits on it. If it does not, please submit transcripts with your last 2 years’ worth of credits. (Minimum of 58 credits for semester programs, 87 credits for quarter programs.)

Please review the program website for additional application instructions. EWU alumni do not need to submit an official EWU transcript.

Graduate Student Admission Requirements

Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in post-secondary academic coursework.

The Director of Graduate Programs may, with the written recommendation of the program director, approve admission based upon other considerations for students who do not meet this standard.

Graduate Students Policy

International, non-native English speaking students must provide evidence of adequate proficiency in the English language before admission to graduate study. English proficiency requirements are provided on our International Graduate Students page.

These are the minimum admission requirements for graduate study. Each graduate program will have its own additional criteria, which you can find at the department page for your program.

For applicants who do not meet these requirements, graduate programs may seek approval for an exemption based on other qualifications from Graduate Programs. Please consult with your intended graduate program if this applies to you.

Graduate Programs

Take a Graduate Class

Do you want to take a graduate-level class or two without being admitted to a graduate program? Under most circumstances, you must be admitted to a graduate program to register for a graduate class. However, you may be able to enroll for a term of coursework as a non-degree-seeking (NDS or “non-matriculated”) student with the approval of the academic department that offers the course(s).
