Soon they<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s1\">ll launch careers in health care.<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">CAMP, the College Assistance Migrant Program, is a federally funded program designed to help young people from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds enroll in \u2014 and succeed at \u2014 the nation\u2019s colleges and universities. Eastern\u2019s program, led by CAMP alumna Rocio Rangel, is quickly becoming one of the region\u2019s most successful. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Among its other accomplishments, earlier this year five undergraduates from EWU CAMP were selected to receive the Sea Mar Executive Internship, a prestigious 8-week program with the<br \/>\nSea Mar Community Health Centers in Seattle. The program will provide them with intensive, hands-on experiences in different areas of health care and management.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-fluid alignright wp-image-986 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2022\/01\/210501-CAMP-department-identity-graphic-copy-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2022\/01\/210501-CAMP-department-identity-graphic-copy-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2022\/01\/210501-CAMP-department-identity-graphic-copy-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2022\/01\/210501-CAMP-department-identity-graphic-copy.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The students, CAMP participants Lizeth Tostado in dental hygiene, Lucia Cuevas Ramos in nursing, Maria Sedano in biology, Rebecca Covarrubias in criminal justice, and Zitlaly Cazares in nursing completed their internships this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe would like to formally congratulate our CAMP Scholars on this amazing achievement,\u201d says Rangel.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Sea Mar Health Centers were founded by Latino community leaders and health activists who worked to develop a comprehensive health center for the Latino community in Seattle, with satellite clinics in rural communities in Western Washington. Sea Mar is today one of Western Washington\u2019s largest providers of community-based health and human services, including primary medical and dental care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Eastern\u2019s CAMP program has a distinguished history of sending students to the Sea Mar Executive Internship. Marcella Godina \u201921, (pictured above in the story banner) is a CAMP alumna who was selected for the internship in 2019. She says it was a great \u201copportunity to shadow so many providers, care coordinators, medical assistants, counselors, registered dieticians, health educators, clinic managers and echocardiogram specialists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Once they were migrant and seasonal farm workers.
