Jay Inslee to the university\u2019s Board of Trustees. He joins new members Carol Evans \u201991 and Alexis Alexander \u201908, \u201914, who were also named to the eight-member board in 2024. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">As Eastern\u2019s governing body, the Board of Trustees establishes and reviews university policies and oversees the general management of EWU. It also sets the university\u2019s strategic direction, approves budgets and ensures its fiscal integrity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3166\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3166\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-fluid wp-image-3166\" src=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/Drew-Shirk_crop-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/Drew-Shirk_crop-269x300.jpg 269w, https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/Drew-Shirk_crop.jpg 455w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3166\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drew Shirk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">Shirk comes to the board with a long history of public service. In his current role as director of the Department of Revenue, he leads an agency of 1,500 employees. The Wenatchee native earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington, and attended the Master of Public Administration Program at EWU. She was the first woman to serve as tribal chair for the Spokane Tribe of Indians, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of Indigenous women leaders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">In addition to her bachelor\u2019s degree from EWU, Evans was awarded an honorary doctorate from Eastern last June in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her tribe and community. \u201cWe must continue to educate ourselves throughout life,\u201d says Evans \u201cI am honored to be appointed to the EWU Board of Trustees, and hope to help make college education a success for all students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3163\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3163\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-fluid wp-image-3163\" src=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/Alexis-Alexander-300x288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/Alexis-Alexander-300x288.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/Alexis-Alexander.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alexis Alexander<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">Alexis Alexander, also appointed earlier in 2024, holds both bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees from Eastern, where he was a standout student athlete.
