{"id":3150,"date":"2025-01-10T19:02:49","date_gmt":"2025-01-10T19:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/?post_type=stories&#038;p=3150"},"modified":"2025-01-10T19:02:49","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T19:02:49","slug":"a-space-to-gather-and-learn","status":"publish","type":"stories","link":"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/news\/a-space-to-gather-and-learn\/","title":{"rendered":"A Space to Gather and Learn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I<\/span><span class=\"s2\">t\u2019s not at all surprising<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> that university research libraries, according to the nonprofit Council on Library and Information Resources, are taking on a range of new roles in the digital age, becoming \u201cmore deeply engaged in the creation and dissemination of knowledge.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Eastern\u2019s JFK Library &amp; Learning Commons is no exception, having evolved in recent years to accommodate the latest advances in collection development, information access and user services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3152\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3152\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-fluid wp-image-3152\" src=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/20241015-EWU-Campus-466-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/20241015-EWU-Campus-466-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/20241015-EWU-Campus-466-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test-www.ewu.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2025\/01\/20241015-EWU-Campus-466.jpg 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3152\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">EWU&#8217;s JFK Library<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nThis summer saw more progress as the library completed a much-anticipated series of services upgrades, including an expansion of digital resources, improved organization, greater access to its collections and an increase in quiet study and collaborative spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Many of the changes, library officials say, came in response to feedback from the campus community, including faculty members who requested additional databases to support student-faculty research and experiential-learning projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Other improvements included a consolidation of books on the upper level of the library\u2019s campus building, which increased access to \u2014 and convenience in \u2014 browsing among the stacks. Books that hadn\u2019t been borrowed in 20 or more years were shipped out, creating additional space for current and emerging curriculum needs. Maps were redesigned to help students more easily discover resources, services and study areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019ve already had positive feedback from patrons over the summer and intercession.
