Living on campus is the authentic Eastern experience, and it gives you unique access to study groups, campus activities, campus recreation, and all that we have to offer. Your willingness to engage and try new things will make a difference in the experience you have.

Please become familiar with the following information as you prepare to move in and for a smooth transition to life on campus.

Community Standards

Community Standards are a set of guidelines developed by residents of a floor or wing in conjunction with policies established by the Board of Trustees and by the State of Washington. They work to help residents create positive living and learning environments. Residents are expected to:

  • Comply with reasonable requests from hall staff and other university officials
  • Monitor and accept responsibility for the behavior of their guests
  • Report violations of rules and regulations to appropriate staff
  • Respect the rights of others
  • Participate actively in self-governance
  • Contribute positively to the community
  • Actively participate in educational and social programs

These standards are established between the residents and Community Advisor (CA) at floor meetings.

Roommates

You are going to be living with a new person. What now?

Tip #1: Be Open

People are going to be different than you. The best way to create a great roommate relationship is to be willing to listen to others and be open to their differences.

Tip #2: Talk to Each Other

Open and honest communication is the best and healthiest approach to take with your roommate. At move-in, you will complete a Roommate Agreement Form that sets expectations and boundaries with them.

Tip #3: Talk to Your CA

Your Community Advisor (CA) is trained in conflict mediation and supporting you when you're feeling overwhelmed or helpless with a roommate situation.

Can I live with an international student?

We offer the opportunity to live with an international student. They come from all over the world to EWU through various programs to learn English, be engaged in American culture, and be in a new environment.

What if I want to change rooms?

Room changes are not accepted before move-in. If you’re not happy after you’ve given it a try, you’ll have the opportunity to request a room change during the second week of the quarter.

Remember: a great roommate doesn’t have to be your best friend.

  • Mattress and pillow covers

  • Television (one per room)
  • Crates for storage

  • Aquarium with fish (fully aquatic, 10 gal. max)

These items are allowed, but we’ve found that they take up a lot of extra space or get used infrequently. To help out, we provide the following items in each hall office for residents to borrow:

  • Cleaning supplies (broom, vacuum, etc.)
  • Pots, pans, and baking sheets
  • Iron
  • Ping-pong supplies
  • Pool supplies (billiards)
  • Movies (DVDs)
  • Board games

  • Illegal drugs (including marijuana)

Laundry

Laundry machines are located on each floor in every university residence hall. You will be issued a laundry code via EWU email each quarter that is loaded into a laundry app called PayRange. You will use this app and the code to do your laundry.

 

 

Inclusive Housing

Inclusive housing will be in Pearce.

If you are interested in the inclusive floor, please email us at housing@ewu.edu with your information and we will work to get you assigned to that floor.

Inclusive housing is an option in which two or more students can share a room and community bathroom regardless of their identity. It helps ensure living arrangements are welcoming and inclusive for all members of our community. This option may be especially appealing to students who:

  • Are in the process of discovering their identity
  • Do not wish to identify themselves by gender
  • Are members, allies or wanting to learn more about LGBTQ+ communities
  • Feel more comfortable being roommates with someone of a different gender

Note: The intent of inclusive housing is not for couples to live together within the EWU residence halls.

Break Housing

Residents are allowed to stay in any of the halls during Thanksgiving break, for no additional charge.

Thanksgiving Break Housing Application

Application for Winter Break 2024-25

Winter Break housing will be located in Dryden Hall.  Students who stay in winter break housing will have to move to this building during the Winter Break period.

  • Residents who need to remain in the residence halls during the break between quarters (Dec. 13 – Jan. 5) must make arrangements in advance by completing this form on, or before, Friday, November 29, 2024.
  • This option is available only to students continuing to live in the halls during winter quarter 2025. If you will not be living in the residence halls during winter quarter 2025, you must move out before noon on Dec. 13, 2024.
  • The cost is $450 per person for one or more days in the halls during this break. This pricing does not include meals. Please check with Dining Services for the break schedule for meals. This charge will be applied to your student account during the first week of winter break.
  • If your winter break application is accepted by EWU Housing & Residential Life, you agree to abide by the terms and conditions of this contract, the EWU Student Conduct Code, and Housing & Residential Life Policies.

Winter Break Housing Application

Residents are allowed to stay in their assigned halls during spring break, for no additional charge.

Summer Housing

Summer Housing is available in snyamncut. The summer housing application will be available the first week of spring quarter 2025.
