Congratulations!
Now that you’ve been admitted to Eastern, now what? Complete these newly admitted steps to finish your admissions process.
Find the Term Deadline
What to Do:
- Decide which term you would like to start. The following steps must be complete by the term deadline in order to be advised.

Set Your NetID Password (please wait 2-3 days after you receive your decision letter)
What You Need:
- Your eight-digit verification code (EWU ID number), which is found at the top of your acceptance letter and in a series of emails you received to your personal email address during your application process.
- Your username/NetID, which is also on your acceptance letter to Running Start
- Your personal information, including the name used on your admissions application and your date of birth.
What to Do:
- Visit Account Login.
- Choose “Activate Account.”
- Enter your first and last name, EWU ID and date of birth into the form.
- Submit the form.
- Wait for confirmation from IT that your NetID is set up.
What to Know:
- Your NetID is used for most of the online services at EWU including registering for courses, checking your grades, paying your tuition and many of the following steps.
- When you’re done with this step, make sure you remember your NetID and password!
STOP. You must complete Step 2 to continue.
Log Into Your EWU Email
What You Need:
- Your NetID and password you created in Step 2.
What to Do:
- Visit IT’s Email page.
- After setting up your account, you will receive a temporary password. You must log in to create a permanent one.
- Log in to your email.
What to Know:
- Get in the habit of regularly checking your EWU email, at least once a day. Important communication from Running Start, instructors and the university will be sent only to your EWU email.
- Your email username is the entire email address, for example: jsmith42@ewu.edu.
- All official university communication is sent to your EWU email address.
Complete English & Math Surveys
ENGLISH PLACEMENT
All students must complete the English Placement Survey to be able to take composition based English courses at EWU.
What You Need:
- Your EWU ID, which is on your acceptance letter.
What to Do:
- Go to the English placement survey.
- Complete the survey and submit.
- Receive your best recommended English Composition course.
What to Know:
- This is not an exam! The survey will ask about your past high school English experience. You only need to meet one of the listed options to mark “yes” on the survey.
- Be honest on this survey. You will be more successful if you are.
- Your Running Start advisor will use this information to determine eligibility for English Composition courses.
MATH PLACEMENT
This placement survey is optional. Complete the math placement survey if:
- You’ve completed a full year (two semesters) of Algebra I & II at your high school. You must have final grades in both Algebra I and Algebra II.
- You still need math to graduate high school and want to take it at EWU.
- You are interested in a degree/career that includes math, for example: STEM, education, business, social sciences or some liberal arts degrees.
What you Need:
- Your NetID and password you created in Step 2.
- Your EWU ID, which is on your acceptance letter.
- Access to a current high school transcript (recommended, but not required).
What to Do:
- Go to the math placement survey.
- Choose “I’m Ready to Begin!”
- Complete the survey and submit.
What to Know:
- This is not an exam! Like the English survey, this survey will ask about your past high school math experience.
- Be honest on this survey. You will be more successful if you are.
- You will be sent a placement score to your EWU email. Make sure you check your spam folder.
- Your Running Start advisor will use this information to determine eligibility for math courses.

Complete Running Start Canvas Orientation
CANVAS ORIENTATION
What to Know:
- Canvas is where you will find all of your course content and class information.
- When the Running Start Orientation Canvas course is ready to access, you will be invited to join once you have activated your EWU account and signed in to your EWU email.
- Once you’ve been invited to the orientation, visit inside.ewu.edu, click “Canvas” in the upper left-hand corner of the page (under “Top Picks” on mobile), then select “Running Start Online Orientation,” accept the course, and complete it.
What to Do:
- Complete the Running Start Canvas Orientation within 10 days of being invited to the Canvas course.
Complete the Advising & Enrollment Steps
Now that you’ve completed the newly admitted steps, keep checking your EWU email as your advisor will invite you to make an appointment. To prepare for your appointment, please complete the advising and enrollment steps.
What to Do:
- Once your admitted steps are complete, check your EWU email for an invitation to make an advising appointment for Fall classes.
