While an MFA student at EWU, Matthew Spaur<\/strong> served as fiction editor for\u00a0Willow Springs<\/i>\u00a0and was nominated for the AWP Intro Awards.<\/p>\n

After graduating in 1998, he was the co-owner and publisher of Spokane’s\u00a0The Local Planet Weekly<\/i>, a nationally recognized weekly newspaper. In his memoir\u00a0Making a Small Fortune<\/a><\/i>, he writes about launching the newspaper while caring for two family members with the rare disease of porphyria. In 2023, he discussed his memoir as a panelist during the 25th<\/sup>\u00a0annual\u00a0Get Lit! Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His work has appeared in\u00a0South Dakota Review<\/i>,\u00a0Owen Wister Review<\/i>,\u00a0Wisconsin Review<\/i>,\u00a0Willow Springs<\/i>,\u00a0Heliotrope<\/i>,\u00a0Into the Ruins<\/i>, and\u00a0The Seattle Times<\/i>, and in the anthologies\u00a0Microsoft in the Mirror<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Secrets<\/i>. As a ghost writer for executives, his work has appeared in FORTUNE and numerous nerdy trade publications.<\/p>\n

Spaur and his teams have won awards and nominations from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Society for Technical Communications.<\/p>\n

He continues to write and is currently seeking an agent for a speculative fiction novel.<\/p>\n

He’s also a narrator of multiple audio books available through\u00a0Audible<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition to his MFA, he holds an MBA from the University of Nevada-Reno.<\/p>\n
