We offer valuable hands-on experience in virtually every phase of theatrical production, including acting, directing, singing, costuming, and a myriad of technical and design skills.

This Scholarship has been created by the Washington Alliance for Theatre Education (WATE) for worthy EWU Theatre Students in the name of Bryan Jackson. Bryan (1963-2009) graduated from EWU and was a passionate WATE member and very active in the Spokane Theatre Community. Bryan expressed the desire to become a high school teacher as early as the 10th grade. He joined the Spokane School District in 1990. For the last 14 years of his life, Bryan taught English and Drama at Lewis & Clark High School, serving for several years as head of the LCHS Drama Department.

Theatre students are awarded approximately $2,900 in scholarships each year—just one part of the $9.7 million EWU awards annually to nearly 1,500 students through a single scholarship application. Scholarships aren’t just for top GPAs or athletes—they’re based on your major, background, community service, and more. And the best part? Scholarships are free money you don’t have to pay back.
The EWU General Scholarship Application for the academic year opens Nov. 1 and closes Feb. 1.
In addition to the general application, the theatre department offers two additional scholarships, which have their own application.
